“Where Do We Go From Here? 37 Years After the Assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Operation PUSH Headquarters, Chicago, IL.
April 2nd 2005

37 years after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  Black leaders came together at the historic Operation PUSH headquarters where they were treated to a panel discussion featuring the Rev. Jesse L. Jackson and the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, Dr. Ron Walters and Dr. Michelle Goodwin.

Many of the civil rights gains of the movement led by Dr. King are gradually being eroded, according to the panelists.

Minister Farrakhan pointed out that Dr. King’s efforts to knock down corrupt laws that created hardship for Black people were actually aimed at helping America. “He was fighting to give America perpetuity in trying to make America more just,” he said.  “But 50 years after Brown (v. Board of Education) we still have an inferior and inadequate education and 47 years after the Public Accommodations Bill, we have access, but have lost what we had during segregations.  It was not Dr. King’s dream to have Black people end up integrated with nothing.”
